UNIVERSITY of the Philippines (UP) President Angelo Jimenez said on Tuesday that transformative service would be the trademark of his administration.

Jimenez named the 10 flagship programs of his administration for 2023 to 2029 as academic excellence, inclusive admissions, research and innovation, open distance electronic learning, archipelagic and oceanic virtual university, arts and culture, quality management system and quality assurance, active and collaborative partnerships, expansion of public service offices and digital transformation.

He added that the programs were anchored on UP's new motto: Honor, Excellence and Service.

Jimenez said a more inclusive admissions policy entails accepting poorer students, noting 44 percent of current UP students came from private schools, 27 percent from public science high schools and 29 percent from public high schools.

The Lingap scholarship, he added, was meant to support indigent students.

"We will provide them food, educational support, dorms, communication and transport, a total of P80,000 to 100,000 a year, and we have set a budget for that.

We are starting with 350 on GIDA (geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas), I think 350 is a good start," said Jimenez.

He said he believes his administration would help UP meet its obligations under the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

"What we are trying to do here is make what we are doing explainable to anyone so that they can have a sense of our direction... We are using the same budget but we are collaborating with our alumni. We are mobilizing them," he said.
